River Dee – Rhagatt Hall

A scenic stretch of the River Dee comprising of over one and a half miles of the left hand bank fishing with seven holding pools offering good salmon, sea-trout and grayling fishing, in fact the grayling fishing is some of the best in England and Wales. There is also a good stock of native brown trout.  It generally has a good wading bottom, apart from in the Bonwms – but take care – floods can alter the depth without warning – use a wading stick and wear a life jacket.

How to get there – OS map reference SJ 052738 to 045745.

From the A5 – take the B5437 to Carrog. After crossing the Dee take the left-hand turn and drive through Carrog on the B5437. The drive to Tyn Llwyn Farm is the first turning on your left on the B5437 just past a right turn to the “Eucalyptus Farm” at the end of the village.

From the A5104 – take the B5436 in the direction of Carrog. Turn left at the junction with the B5437. The drive to Tyn Llwyn Farm is the first turning on your right by a school sign.

Once in the drive do not go beyond the second cattle grid at the entrance to the first meadow and park in the fenced-off parking corral by the side of the second cattle grid. NB. This carpark is not to be used when night fishing There is additional parking for three cars on the grass verge to the left of the Entrance to Rhagatt Hall which is on the B5437 just a few hundred metres past the entrance to Tyn Llwyn Farm which must be used when night fishing when cars should be parked facing the direction of intended travel when leaving.

Access to the water

  1. Access from Tyn Llwyn Farm do not walk across the fields as they are used for silage. Walk around the side of the field, which takes you to the Signal Pool, or walk towards the farm along the track and then follow the edge of the field pass the farm buildings to the Dynamite Pool.
  2. Access from the grass verge by the entrance to Rhagatt Hall is through the left-hand gate –which is normally unlocked but climb over if locked. Follow the fence on your right straight down to the river to the stile by the Bonwm Pools. Return by the same route. Please park down the hill from the white fence post.

Water information.

The seven pools are – in upstream order: –Signal Pool – you can fish from the island; Dynamite Pool; Bench Pool; Lower Bonwm; Upper Bonwm; Railway Pool; Chain Pool

Night Fishing.There is no need to obtain special permission before night fishing. Parking and access/egress is only via the grass verge at the entrance to Rhagatt Hall. NB. Please show consideration to Cdr. Bradshaw and his family by keeping quiet and parking your car in the direction of home when you arrive.
