Eirbistock Weir Removal Progress

The removal of the weir at the top of Beat 2 is in progress. They seem to be taking the weir down in stages to allow the water behind the weir i.e. on Beat 1 to disperse slowly. This has however released a lot of slit (200 + years accumulated behind the weir) and the river is discolored all the way downstream as far as Farndon. The good news is that fish have been seen running over the newly breached weir. It will be interesting to see how this changes Beat 1 although Jonathan in his recent post said the increase in flow should make for good fly water. The downside of the weir removal is it will make migration of barbel upstream easier, you may not catch a barbel on fly but they will take a spinner!
